KTM MX Riders shine at Valance

Posted by Marko Barthel On Februar - 27 - 2007
KTM celebrates excellent results at the pre-season international event at Valance, France.

There is no better indication that KTM is truly “Ready to Race” MX in 2007 than the excellent results at Valance by factory riders Tyla Rattray and David Philippaerts and by KTM-supported rider, Germany’s Max Nagl. The event, which mixed MX1 and MX2, indicates that the bikes are performing to high expectations and work with KTM’s new Motocross Race Director and multi MX champion Stefan Everts is bearing early fruit. Philippaerts was second overall at Valance and Tyla Rattray finished top of the MX2 classification.

KTM Sarholz’s Max Nagl won the first heat, confirming he can be a serious title contender since he jumped on the MX1 machine. KTM Red Bull’s Philippaerts had to settle for fourth and wait till the second heat to challenge the leadership.

As the bikes roared into action for the second heat, Philippaerts grabbed the holeshot and lead for the entire race to finish ahead of Kevin Strijbos and Joshua Coppins. Max Nagl was a solid fifth at the chequered flag.

While Coppins stole the final heat, Philippaerts was close behind in second, a result that also reflected the final overall standings. MX1 bikes were first to cross the line in all three heats.

It was an excellent weekend for Nagl, who finished third in the overall standings. The German rider also finished top of the standings in Mantova, Italy recently in the first of three internationals before the Grand Prix season gets underway in Valkenswaard, Netherlands on April 1. Riders contest the final pre-season event in Hawkstone on March 4.

KTM factory rider Spaniard Jonathan Barragan was out of contention at Valence after he sustained a slight heel injury in a crash and Britain’s Tommy Searle did not start.

Justin Soule had a rough start and crashed on the first turn. He came up in second to last place and quickly began riding consistent lap times to work himself into eighth place.

Amp’d Mobile World Supercross – 6th round Houston, TX – Lites West

Posted by Marko Barthel On Februar - 12 - 2007
The KTM squad made their way into the Lone Star State this weekend for round 6 of the AMA West Coast Supercross Lites series.

After inspiring performances at Anaheim 3 and with both Martin Davalos and Josh Hansen 100% healthy, Houston looked like the place were KTM could get it’s first podium of the 2007 season.

As timed qualifying started at Reliant Stadium it didn’t take long for one of the treacherous whoop sections to claim one of its first victims. Unfortunately, the victim was Davalos. He got up and finished with only minor cuts to his hand, but it did however limit his ability to set a fast lap time.

Both riders easily got in the night program with Davalos in heat 1 and Hansen in heat 2. Getting a good start is everything in Supercross and Davalos got another one of his patented good starts during his heat race, easily putting himself into a qualifying position for the main event with a solid fourth place. Hansen wasn’t as lucky, but that didn’t slow him down as his 8th place in heat 2 also moved him directly into the main event.

With high hopes for two good finishes the start of the Supercross Lites main event didn’t go as planned. Davalos started midpack and Hansen found himself sitting on the ground after being involved in a first turn pileup.

Davalos quickly worked his way up into the lead pack, while Hansen spent almost the whole main event playing catch up to finish 12th. In the end Davalos would get his best finish so far this season with a fifth.

Über 750ccm in der Enduro DEM

Posted by Marko Barthel On Februar - 9 - 2007

KTM all set for a successful Enduro season

Posted by Marko Barthel On Februar - 8 - 2007
The WORLD ENDURO CHAMPIONSHIP 07 got off to a flying start for the 07 season recently in San Remo when riders, team managers, sponsors and the media got together for the official launch of the teams.

Juha Salminen makes a triumphant return to E1

KTM’s Juha Salminen, the man who has been scooping up titles every year since 1996 has returned from two years with the GNCC in the USA, effectively swapping places with KTM team compatriot and Enduro 3 title holder David Knight. With two 2 US titles and an absolute victory in the New Zealand ISDE, Juha is, a force to be reckoned with but he treats his re-entry into the world championship circuit with admirable modesty.

Juha: “My training just starts right now. Here, I feel like a beginner: new bike, new ambitions, and new people around me. I approach this season as I did in 1998, my first year with the 125cc. In the USA, I acquired a little more experience.”

One of Juha’s biggest rivals in the class will be factory team-mate Alessandro Belometti (ITA-KTM) who placed fourth last season. Both Salminen and Belometti will be riding KTM 250 EXC-F machines. Marc Germain (FRA-YAM), Simone Albergoni (ITA-UFO YAMAHA) and Bartosz Oblucki (POL-HVA), will be out to make their job as difficult as possible.

Samuli Aro favourite for E2 class

Reigning champion Samuli Aro (FIN-KTM) opens the season as favourite in the E2 class and rides a 450 EXC Racing emblazoned with the prestigious No. 1. He is joined by his factory team-mate Fabien Planet (FRA-KTM) on a 250 EXC. Fabien finished in fifth place last season. They can expect competition from Mika Ahola (FIN-HM HONDA) and Stefan Merriman (AUS-APRILIA).

Marko Tarkkala set to capture Knight’s E3 title

With title holder David Knight off to the USA to ride for KTM in the GNCC Series, KTM has two hot irons in the E3 fire with Marko Tarkkala (FIN-KTM) and double E1 champion Ivan Cervantes (SP-KTM), both onboard 525 EXC Racing machines. They will be challenged by vice champion Sebastien Guillaume (FRA-HVA) and Anders Eriksson (SWE-HVA), who returns after a serious crash in 2006. Alessandro Botturi (ITA-HM HONDA) is also a contender. Two former motocross riders – Luigi Seguy (FRA-APRILIA) and Fred Bolley (FRA-GAS GAS) also join the race for the E3 title.

The season opens in Östersund, Sweden on March 17, 2007.
